Who you are though. You said a lot about the idea of Witches when we first met- that it's as much about self-image and belief as it is literal magic. So that's why our denial hurts you?

Yes. To be believed in is to exist, and we must also have a sense of self with us at all times. Boredom kills Witches, because a bored Witch stops thinking, and thus stops having a self.

[He shivers- once again thinking of when he was a wisp. If Alphamon hadn't stayed with him, talked to him like he could hear her... would he have disappeared too?]

So the Game is to, what, exercise your self a bit? Is that what you meant by having to do this? After all, if our lives are on the line we can't risk not taking you seriously as a threat- we can't refute you're here when people are 'dying' around us.

[Shadow recoils as if he's been burned, and he flips away]

Exactly. It is also a game to prove my right to my identity...though for now, it hasn't been much of one.

I'd rather learn the truth than hide behind lies. And I can't say that I'm a good person, either. If you truly are are terrible, cruel Witch... I want to know your story. Regardless if that is naive of me.

If they follow the same Witch-rules you do, you'd think coming out to see us would only be to their benefit. For all we know you could be writing those letters. Or a servant.

I don't think that's the case, but it wouldn't be hard to argue it.

Dumb? Of course not. The Watanuki you know is not the true one - even the one who you murdered was merely the human piece he placed upon this board, allowing himself to become it.

But if he truly allows what he is to die along with that piece...then perhaps you are correct, and he was an idiot all along.

[She smiles, stepping back.]
